How to Wear Scarves the Scandi Way: Street Style notes from Copenhagen

When Deryane visited Copenhagen for Fashion Week, she expected great impeccable layering, incredible fashion shows, and lots of buying appointments. What she didn’t expect was to fall completely in love with the humble scarf! On the streets of Copenhagen, scarves aren’t just winter afterthoughts - they’re statement pieces, practical heroes, and styling tools all in one. The Scandi approach is effortless, functional, and just a little bit undone. Here’s how to master it: The Dressing Room style.

The Wool Triangle Scarf: The Scandi Essential

If there’s one piece that defines Scandinavian scarf style, it’s the wool triangle. Think soft, slightly textured, and big enough to make an impact. We are loving the incredible merino wool scarves from TBCo. One of our newest additions to The Dressing Room, this B-Corp brand are known for their fun scarves, great for adding warmth and style to any outfit.

Around the Neck (The Classic Front Tie): Fold your wool scarf into a triangle (if it isn’t already), lay the triangle of the scarf across your back, with the V pointing down. Wrap the ends around your neck and loosely tie at the front. The vibe is cosy but polished. Let the front knot sit visibly over a tailored Day Birger et Mikkelsen blazer or an American Vintage knit. This style works beautifully with oversized blazers and relaxed denim - staples of Copenhagen street style.

Around the Neck (The Back Tie): For a more minimal look, place the triangle at the front and wrap the ends around to tie at the back of your neck. The front remains clean and sculptural, almost like built-in layering. This feels especially chic over a structured Harris Wharf coat where you want the silhouette to stay sharp.

Loose and Draped: Scandi dressers love ease. Simply drape the triangle scarf over your shoulders without tying it. A practical style, but also intentionally undone. Use the scarf to add a pop of colour to your looks. Style your TBCo scarf over a bright Essentiel Antwerp knit for true dopamine styling.

Silk Scarves: The Elevated Accent

While wool dominates in cooler months, silk scarves shine year-round. They add colour, print, and a softness that contrasts beautifully with structured tailoring. We are big fans of the ever so chic brand Le Scarf. Le Scarf silk scarves feature a range of different prints, making them a fantastic addition to your new season wardrobe.

Tied Neatly at the Neck: Fold a square Le Scarf silk scarf into a slim band and tie it snugly at the side of your neck. It’s understated, Parisian-meets-Scandi, and perfect with crisp shirting or a simple Rails knit. Finish up this polished look with a pair of Pavement loafers.

The Relaxed Front Knot: For a more street-style-forward look, fold your silk Le Scarf into a triangle and tie it loosely at the front. Let the ends hang slightly uneven. A little asymmetry feels modern, so don't worry if it's not perfect! This style looks especially good over a chunky knit, or a blazer to elevate further.

Scarves Around the Waist: The Unexpected Layer

Move over belts... One of the most inspiring looks Deryane spotted was scarves styled at the waist. It adds dimension and personality without bulk. Tie a silk Le Scarf through your jean belt loops for a flash of colour.

Wrap a TBCo wool triangle scarf around your hips over a minimalist outfit for a layered look. Knot it to the side for a relaxed, off-duty feel. It’s practical too, an extra layer when temperatures dip! We love how this looks over a satin slip skirt for a textural effect.

On Your Bag: Effortless Detail

Another Copenhagen street-style favorite: tying a scarf onto your handbag. There are many different ways that you can style a scarf on your bag!

Wrap a silk Le Scarf around the handle in a loose spiral for a touch of chic. You can also knot a chunkier knitted TBCo scarf at one side of a tote bag and let it drape down for a cool sculptral look.

We love to tie a silk Le Scarf in a bow for a playful contrast on a more structured leather bag, such as the iconic Ganni Bou bag. It instantly elevates even the simplest outfit and makes your accessories feel even more personal.

The Winning Scandi Scarf Formula

What makes it “Scandi” isn’t just how you tie it... it’s how you wear it! Keep the rest of your outfit clean and tailored. Don’t over-style, and do what feels right. Let the scarf move naturally. Mix practicality with personality to highlight your true style.

After Copenhagen, Deryane realised scarves aren’t just accessories… They're styling tools. They add warmth, structure, softness, and individuality all at once! Next time you reach for a scarf, think beyond the obvious. Tie it, wrap it, knot it, drape it. The Scandi way is all about confidence, comfort, and quiet impact.
