6 Tips: To Make Your Wardrobe Work Harder

Getting the most out of your wardrobe is easier than you think!

1. 3 to 1 rule

Each piece in your wardrobe should work with at least 3 other pieces, this way you are able to build numerous outfits, and experiment, keeping everyday stylishly fresh & fun. It is a great exercise for when you are shopping or creating a shopping list too, if you’re looking at a single item, try visualising it with 3 other pieces in your wardrobe, or alternatively build a complete look with several new pieces that you know will interchange nicely into your current attire….. which takes us to tip 2!

2. Dress up, Dress down

Styling has changed a lot since the pandemic, with the line between casual and formal blurring considerably. Now you can wear a jumper with a sequin skirt, a dress with chunky boots or a suit with a t-shirt and trainers. This is perfect when wanting to get the most wear out of your wardrobe, especially with more dressy pieces, that don’t just have to be worn for special occasions. Therefore, when introducing new pieces into your wardrobe, check to see how you can wear them for different occasions – again another tool for outfit building.

3. Core Classics

A capsule wardrobe should always be underpinned by some useful core basics, the classic white t-shirt, a pair of mid blue/black jeans, a leather jacket etc. These will helpfully interchange your looks even more, and the best basis for outfit building.

4. Accessories are Your Friends

Never underestimate an accessory, these smaller items can instantly revamp & give your looks that finishing touch. Investing in a classic leather belt, stylish yet functional bag or a piece of jewellery, that you can use time and again will go a long way in making your wardrobe work harder.

An accessory is also a great way to treat yourself, if your budget won’t stretch to a larger item, as well as mixing up your outfits.

Sometimes knowing how to accessorize can be a little tricky to get right, so if you need any help, simply ask one of our trained stylists.

5. Upside Down, Back to Front

Another great way to make your wardrobe work harder, is to turn them upside down or back to front! For example, some tops, dresses and knitwear have varying necklines on the front compared to the back, by turning these back to front, and styling them differently, you can get even more looks out of the same items, increasing their cost per wear.

6. Layer up!

Remember your dresses, camisoles, skirts etc don’t just need to be for Summer, maximise your wear by layering pieces in different ways. Style these under some great knitwear, pop with a pair of tights and chunky boots and already your wardrobe can be worn all season round!

When you’re styling your looks, or trying on different pieces in a changing room or at home, start thinking creatively and outside the box, because remember fashion is meant to be fun!
