The Brand: Dea Kudibal

Originating as a vintage scarf brand, the Dea Kudibal collection has come a long way since its inception in 2003. Last summer, we hosted an audience with Dea herself and were treated to the rich tale of her origin story. 2008 saw the first full Dea Kudibal clothing collection and with it the establishment of her signature fabrication, Mulberry silk. This fabric certainly speaks for itself in terms of quality, comfort and durability, becoming a core reason why the Dea Kudibal collection thrives here at the DR consistently each season. Of course, much of the allure also comes from Dea’s print designs, dominated by feminine florals and flattering silhouettes. SS24’s ‘Casa Azul’ collection follows suit but with bold experimentation, female artistry and playful patchwork design.

The main inspiration for ‘Casa Azul’ is found in the ‘creative and rich duality’ of two female artists, Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’keefe. This friendship represents the coming together of two women whose mutual support saw ‘common ground in two very different worlds’. Essentially, the collection is very much a tale of two halves; shades of rich cobalt (the colour of Khalo’s striking Casa Azul home) are complimented by rose pinks, oranges and berry reds that surrounded O’Keefe’s Santa Fe ranch.

The result is an incredibly vibrant collection balanced by gentle feminine hues; pair your Rhiannadea trousers I electric blue with Alaima silk blouse to really balance the two styles. The underlying presence of black and white however ensures a neutral colour palette for those with slightly more conservative taste, achieved by pairing the Kiki Blouse and Isabella trousers, both in her signature geometric buckwheat co-ord. Dea’s first ever experiments with raw denim brings a utilitarian aesthetic to hyper-feminine aspects of the collection, seen in our Devanti denim dress. Tailoring follows a slightly more ‘body-skimming line’ this season, sitting closer to the body and nipping in the waist like the Canuska blazer in Sand. Flowers remain everywhere, yet this time are accompanied by quirky patchwork embroidery as seen in the playful Kidine jacket.

Dea Kudibal remains one of our most anticipated collections each season for both the Dressing Room team and our wonderful customers and this transitional collection certainly means there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re looking ahead to those dreamy summer weddings or wanting to elevate your everyday wardrobe with silk blouses and cosy knits. We love Dea Kudibal for the way her collections dominate their own space within our family of Scandinavian brands. After all, each piece is thoroughly ‘designed with love in Copenhagen’.
